Source Code

Back in 2002 I got a message from my good friend, Mads Israelsen. He told me that another friend of ours, Svend Tofte, had signed him up for continuing the legacy of program that was popular online. I have never heard Mads so demanding to be honest. The sound of his voice made it clear he felt completely out of his depth. The program Mads had been recruited to take over was Coolmon One.

I was rather surprised that Svend had signed Mads up for the project without asking Mads upfront. But in truth when Mads one day out of the blue told me that he needed my help and why. I was more surprised that Svend had gone to Mads instead of me. I was the person that had taught Mads to code. While Mads appeared intimidated I was looking forward to it. I was at the time looking for a new hobby.

I quickly took over the project. As Mads didn't really had the time and I was bored in life. Mads, Svend and I quickly realized that what we felt the program could be was way beyond the current code base so we set out to design a successor.

Not long after the design specs were ready they both dropped out, as neither of them really had the time necessary to commit to a project of this scope. Me on the other hand I was bored with everyday life and loved the challenge. It tooks years to complete, in fact between 2002 and 2005 I did not really have a social life because most of my spare time was spend coding on CoolMon 2.

Along the lines new people joined up with the project. So while I was doing most of the main programming, I never really felt like it was a one man project. At this point I would like to thank a couple of people for their major contribution, without them CoolMon 2 would never have been completed. Those people are Christopher "blert" Dilts, Jorge Schrauwen and Baldo "Alch" Ramos.

CoolMon One was made open source shortly after we got the project. But Coolmon 2 was something that I felt like I wanted to keep the code to myself. I think it came down to not wanting people to comment on my ability to code. But these days I am so proud of what I manage to achieve that I am proud to offer of the source code for CoolMon 2. It was always the plan to release the source somewhere down the line, but I had not envisioned it would be more than a decade before that happened.

So please help yourself to the source code. Just promise me one thing ... have fun with it.
